Denville, NJ Tree Lighting.
Late November, 2002

2/14/03 I just completed the Late November section. It now has all the captions and the larger pop-up images embedded.
1/27/03 Today I have added several more sections. First, a really short section of my sister, Laura and her beau Ron Fairchild. I'm looking forward to meeting him, but until then pictures will have to do. Also, here are portraits of Paul taken in mid-November, 2002.
1/20/03 Tonight I have added three new sections. First, October 2002 activities, then the first New Jersey installment of Halloween madness: Terrorbite2002. And finally, Fall photos taken by my sister, Laura.

I recently switched all my domains to dyndns.org, which is a great service for those who want to have their own Internet domains, but don't have the luxury of a dedicated IP address (or block of addresses). Another bonus is that since my ISP blocks inbound port TCP port 80, I can use a web redirect to send people to the right TCP port to get to my various web servers inside my network here at home. This means I am entirely self-hosted. Thanks go to Marc Frega of Jungle.net for the great job he did hosting Will-Do for the last five years. Hopefully I'll be able to manage as well on my own.

So, because of the redirected TCP port, it is once again necessary to use the "www" in front of my domain name(s) to get to the right server. Instead of simply typing in "will-do.com", it is now necessary to type in "www.will-do.com" to get here. Same goes for www.WilliamDaugherty.com, www.PaulDaugherty.net and www.MrPCHead.com. You will notice that once you do that, you are actually looking at http://will-do.com:85. This is normal for this arrangement.

1/3/03 My sister, Laura took some really nice photos while visiting us in the Summer. As luck would have it, she became a grandmother today!
12/31/02 Well, it's my last effort for the year...the Schell Family Reunion for 2002 was held August 17-18 and was of course a real pleasure.
12/24/02 It's Christmas Eve and I just added a section for Late July 2002 that is very short but has some good shots of Paul at the Jersey Shore and some shots from Jim and Mohamed's house. I also added a section from Early August 2002 that has Paul pictures, some shots of my HAM antenna farm on our house and shots from a cookout at Rod, Sue and Katie's house!
12/23/02 Today I added an Early July 2002 section which has pictures from our little pool, Smoke Rise Beach, the Jersey Shore, plus a bonus visit from Tom, Stephanie and Paul's cousins Mallory and Christopher. I also added a Mid July 2002 section which has some nice shots of Paul eating Cheerios with a spoon, another fun time at the playground, a home improvement project involving concrete and even a cool computer gadget.
12/20/02 We now have a June 2002 section, which has shots of the famous Rhododendron in our front yard, from Paul's swimming pool and fun at Lake Kinnelon, among other things.
12/19/02 Tonight I added the End of May/Memorial Day Weekend 2002 section.
12/18/02 Spring 2002 is a hodgepodge from March through late May. We have shots of the Vankos, including Michael's baptism. Also Images from Michael, Roseanne and Genevieve's house, along with various other things. Another great feature I added recently is the Search Page. With it you can do text searches of my entire site. I have found a lot of site errors already using this tool. It can make for some fun cross-references.
12/17/02 February fun includes scenes from around the house, Paul's new wagon, visiting Mommy's workplace and Gardner Field's children's playground
12/16/02 Paul's First Birthday is now posted. These shots were all from a few day period around his birthday, January 26th.
12/15/02 Alright, the race is on! I simply cannot let the holidays catch me out-of-date on this site. I have added one new section and have the images prepped for about 4 months. I'll be adding a number of new sections within the next 24 hours hopefully. Until then, the first installment is from January, 2002 and has lots of snow pictures.
7/31/02 OK, I've finally made it to 2002! We now have a section on the New Year's Trip to Cincinnati. I've already done prep on several of the 2002 sections, so I should be able to knock out several months worth rather quickly.
7/27/02 I found a bunch of scanned photos, most from 2001, but some going back as far as 1998. I really couldn't leave them out, so they are part of a section I've added to the end of 2001 called Year-End Wrap-Up.
6/27/02 OK, now I've added the Christmas Visits section, showing some stuff with the Vanko family, shopping and Jim Vallat. Also, just a few pictures from Christmas Day. I can't understand why I only took three pictures that morning! It's been so long I can't remember. Oh well.

Next will be our trip to Cincinnati over the New Year.

6/27/02 Well, it's been a while, but I think I just have to start getting up to date here. The job search has been an all-consuming effort for most of this year. I shudder to think of what a terrible waste of productivity it has been to spend so much time and still not have a full-time job. Anyway, a lot has happened on the personal side of things and I want to try and catch up. To that end, I will start posting pages chronologically from where we last left off: Christmas Tree Lighting 2001. I'll keep plugging until I'm caught up!
12/24/01 It's now almost 10 pm. and I just finished the last section for the day. It's on Paul's first Snowfall. Earlier today I added a section on Paul meeting Santa, which is wonderful. I am going to skip the Tree Lighting ceremony we had on the 15th for now. Finally, I have just added a small page to express our best wishes for the Holiday Season. Oh, I almost forgot: Paul's First Movie! It is pretty cute.

Merry Christmas everybody! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

12/24/01 It's 4:30 a.m., Christmas Eve. I just finished the Halloween section. I am now working on November, which as noted previously will be simple and short. Looks like I could be caught up very soon!

NOTE: If you're here looking for Terrorbite 2001, I am sorry to say it didn't come off this year. There were too many problems relating to building codes, fire codes and other wet-blanket type stuff. Yes, I know we have to be safe, but it seems Jim Viau's neighbors just aren't really happy about the Halloween extraveganza that is Terrorbite. Don't worry, Terrorbite isn't gone: next year it will have a new home, probably inside a commercial space.

12/23/01 Today I have added an October Weekend Fun section, which still leaves me two months behind, but I'm not going to sweat it. I am clinging to the hope that a Christmas Miracle will get me up-to-date in the next 48 hours! We'll see what happens. November was pretty thin, so it's possible.

If the wheels come off, I will just have to relax and enjoy the Holidays. I certainly won't stop taking pictures and video just because I am behind. That would defeat the purpose of these chronicles.

12/19/01 I just added a page on our October trip to New Hampshire and am feverishly working to get up-to-date before Christmas. It WILL HAPPEN!!!
12/10/01 Today I added a very small page for the beginning of October 2001. I am going to be adding about 5-6 more October sections, with Pumpkin picking and of course, Halloween. The next section will be on our Trip to New Hampshire during the week of October 10th. There are some nice sky shots from Skip's and John's houses.
12/9/01 September is complete with the addition of the Late September page. At this time, the world turned upside down. I was in Manhattan when the attacks of September 11th occurred. I finally got out of the city in the late afternoon by crossing the George Washington Bridge with Jim and Mohamed. (Thanks, Jim!) The view of Lower Manhattan from the bridge was the most horrible thing I have ever seen. I looked at those towers every day from the Lincoln Tunnel helix while riding the bus to work. I can't express what a loss I feel. Then, at the end of the month, I lost my job at Nortel. Bummer. Anyway, life does go on. Somehow.

I will be adding the October sections this week, so please check back daily for the latest installments. I WILL be up-to-date by Christmas!

12/8/01 Just added the Early September 2001 section. It has shots from Labor Day Weekend and from the visit by my sister Laura and her son Daniel. I have only one short section left for September, then on to October, which I will complete over this weekend. At this rate, the site will be current in a week or less!
12/6/01 OK, I got sidetracked for a bit (again), but today will see three new sections. First, our August visit to Jim and Mohamed's house. This was a real pleasurable time. These guys know how to host! Their home is now graced with a new kitchen and dining room that is probably the nicest one I've seen in a Ranch home. (Not putting down ranches, just an observation).

The second section is a little on on Paul eating his first Cheerio. Some will think this is silly, but it's a big deal to us: Here's this little lump of a baby, now eating a solid chunk of stuff! Amazing!!

The third section is on our late August bike ride in the Shawangunks in New York State.

Finally, I hate adding all these "dated" sections so late after the actual events, but I am doing so because the chronology won't be complete otherwise. Also, there are nice photos here that I hope add some beauty to the lives of those viewing them. September will have only two sections, then October has around 6-7, so I expect to be caught up and current before the remaining holidays. I will experiment with adding some VERY short video clips, given that I am now experimenting with DV editing. In any event, I hate being so far behind and will remedy that shortly. Thanks for being patient.

11/25/01 The Schell Family Reunion 2001 section is complete! My next job will be a section on our visit to Mohamed and Jim's house. They have a beautiful home with a fabulous new kitchen. The Pool and landscaping are now complete and it is really quite striking.
11/22/01 Happy Thanksgiving! I've now added the index and first full page of the Schell Family Reunion 2001 section. I will try and get the rest of the reunion stuff posted by the end of the weekend.
11/21/01 I finally have posted an update. It's only one small section from early August when  we took Paul on his second trip to the Shore, but I will be doing more today and tonight, then continuing over the Holiday weekend as I can.
10/19/01 If two months ago someone had approached me with a list of potential events that might occur in my life and that list included HALF of what actually has occurred, I would have thought that person was crazy. So, I will try and sort out what has happened here.
8/7/01 Wow, the Summer is flying by! I just added another section with various pictures from the abortive vacation, picnics, beach fun and other cool stuff. It's entitled July Happenings.
6/29/01 We are now UP-TO-DATE!!! First time in months that has happened. I have just added pictures from this past weekends festivities. We'll see how long I can manage this. Having the wireless LAN really makes this easier to accomplish. I no longer have to be sequestered in my office downstairs. So, this past weekend we did a little hiking and went to Jim and Mohamed's pool party. Check it out!
6/27/01 Just added a section on our recent Cincinnati Trip, which included a visit to the Miami-Whitewater Forest, a place Maria used to visit frequently for the 8-mile bike loop. We also went to the Newport, Kentucky Aquarium, which far exceeded my expectations. Lastly, we attended a cookout at Dave Johnson's house, which he has been kind enough to host for us during our last two trips. Thanks Dave!
6/25/01 Tonight I added a Tribute to Roy Snell, one of my dearest friends ever, who died last Thursday after a battle with Liver Cancer. He made the world a brighter place. His light will shine on in those he touched. I will love him always.
6/23/01 Here's another Paul section: Paul At Home VI which includes pictures from Paul's baptism. From now on, I will just add sections here and under the Personal page. I will drop the "Paul at home" moniker and simply give sections titles based on what's in them generally, just like before Paul came along.
6/20/01 Wow, it has been almost two months since an update! I am truly remiss in my duties as webmaster here at Will-Do/WilliamDaugherty.com, so I have begun playing catch-up. My first effort is another new PaulAtHome section. I will be shifting away from this model and moving back to straight chronology soon, since Paul is now an intrinsic part of our lives. I love him more every day.
4/24/01 Two more Paul at Home sections have been added. One from April 20th and one from April 21st. Lot's of neat photos there.
4/3/01 Here's another section with more images and narrative about his first few days here at home. He's already been to St. Clares hospital to meet Maria's coworkers and will be going back today to see some he missed. He has also made it to BabiesRUs in Paramus, first trip of many I suppose.
4/2/01 Well, we got it done! Paul is home! Here's our trip to Guatemala to get him and here's Paul at home! Too much to say here. See the pages for all the info.
3/23/01 We are now booked for travel, leaving Sunday! I will be holding my son in three days.

I will try and update the "Paul" page from Guatemala, so check it directly rather than depend on this page or the main page.

3/15/01 Today we were notified that Paul is now our legally adopted son!!! Follow the link to find out when we go get him.
3/10/01 Baby Shower! What a wonderful experience this was.

I have also updated my contact info., as well as lots of other miscellaneous pages associated with general navigation, what's new and the numerous changes to the main page.

FYI: I am learning Dreamweaver 4 and will be using Fireworks to add some cool navigation pages to the site, both on the main page and some section pages. I think it's going to really change the look of the site and make each section more interesting to start. As always, let me know what you think.

3/4/01 I've added a cute little JavaScript trick to the last Views from Smoke Rise section. We heard from our adoption case worker that DNA test analysis by the US Embassy should be complete any day now and that the courts are done also. The last step is the Ministry of something-or-other has to approve everything. Almost there!

Tonight we are forecast for the largest snowstorm of the year, beating even the wild one over New Year's weekend. We'll see. Stay tuned to see pictures of it!

2/27/01 I've added another Scenes from Smoke Rise page for January 2001. This one has scenes from a hike up to Indian Cliffs at Split Rock Reservoir after much snow. It was awesome. Also, at the bottom of that page are several shots a big snowstorm we had in early February.

Paul was a month old yesterday! We hope to have him with us in a few short weeks.

2/24/01 Well, the baby's room is just about finished. Take a look.
2/4/01 This week we received the best news of our lives: We will be receiving our new son in the next two or three months! Read all about Paul Carlos Daugherty.
1/6/01 Well, yesterday was my 40th birthday, but I just don't get it: I feel no different than I have for the last 10 or 12 years. Hmm. Not a bad deal really. So, I have finally added a Links section. I had one in the Professional area, but it was all IT stuff. This area includes web sites of friends (yes, family are friends too!) I also have included a few essential sites that I use daily.

I will be creating at least one area to cover the last month of 2000 soon. Probably "Holidays 2000". Expect a major redesign for this site in the next couple of months. Jess Wilbur has inspired me to really take the JavaScript plunge and get some cool headers/footers throughout my site. It will be a lot of work, but hopefully there will be a lot of reusability in the code. I am playing with ColdFusion as well, but that may have to wait until I start hosting EVERYTHING here at home. We'll see.

12/3/00 Winter Views from Smoke Rise brings a brisk shift from the Fall views (only two weeks ago, linked below). We met a great group of folks during a hike sponsored by the Smoke Rise Trail Committee.

Also, here is more on Andrew Francis Schell taken today.

12/2/00 The Schell family has a new addition! Andrew Francis Schell was born to Rob and Kristen this week.Very exciting. Dad is now a Great-Grandfather, just in time for his 80th birthday.

Also, I now have a section on my home office update. Pretty geeky, but of some interest.

11/14/00 I've added a few more pictures to the Smoke Rise Fall 2000 section. They are of 61 Fox Ledge. Not bad for 6:30 a.m. rush photos!
11/4/00 Today's my sister Laura's birthday. Happy Birthday! I'm happy to announce that both the Terrorbite 2000 and the hiking the Adirondacks sections are complete. The hiking section has some really beautiful and interesting shots. Terrorbite, well, it's a sociological phenomenon if nothing else. Let me know what you think.
10/28/00 You know it was only a matter of time. Terrorbite 2000 is here! I am leaving now for the town of Salem, New Hampshire where every Halloween, we conjure up your worst fears: grown men with too much time on their hands ;-) I will be updating this area as the next several days unfold. Check back often! Also, the Adirondacks section is now 3/4 finished and some of those shots are dramatic.
10/24/00 Still working on the hiking the Adirondacks section. Time is short lately. I am trying a new technique for the image windows. Now when you click a thumbnail, you will see a window pop up on top of the index page, which contains the full-size image and a "close" button. This is done with JavaScript and is pretty easy to do. I like the look much better and the navigation is cleaner as well. Still nowhere near the amount of work involved with making individual HTML pages for each full image, but it is very aesthetically pleasing and not as easy to get lost in.
10/16/00 We now have a section on hiking the Adirondacks which consists of photos taken during the October 1st, 2000 weekend. Some very nice stuff there. It was the first time I got to really use my trekking poles. With these knees, it makes an enormous difference. I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys hiking over rough terrain and/or is carrying a pack. The extra stability and reduced legwork has a dramatic impact.

I have started a section on Fall images from Smoke Rise. I don't know how much I will actually put here, but I want to try and capture some of the beauty we have during the turning of the leaves. It is pretty dramatic.

9/28/00 I have been making some changes to the site. I now have an "assistant" on my contact page. He's an old friend who graciously agreed to help you find me. ;-)

I am also trying out the Human Click online assistance application. It permits me to have interactive chat and to "push" pages out to the person I am chatting with. It's pretty cool. It's also free and quite easy to implement. If you see "Click here to chat with a representative", that means I am ready to accept a chat session, wherever I might be. If you see "Click here to leave a message", it means I am not currently available to chat. This is a very simple form of online collaboration, much like what we at Nortel sell in our Web Center Portal. Try it out! It's fun and you might actually get some useful information from me. ;-)

8/27/00 The Schell Family Reunion pages are finally complete! I particularly like the animation (image on this page). In addition to my usual collection, Henry sent several good scanned photos to include in the section. They are in an addendum at the end of Section V. It was awesome, even with the bad weather. In fact, the weather was a blessing in disguise.

I am next going to seriously try and get some of the Clarify/Nortel activities from July documented here. I have some really good stuff from Colorado that are next to be posted. Stay tuned!

I think I am also going to post a miscellaneous Summer '00 section, because I have a lot of nice things that were not part of any trip or work activity. They just happened.

7/21/00 Well, I have finally gotten around to working on last year's vacation to DC and Ocracoke Island. It's not yet done, but should be by tomorrow or Sunday. I have decided that until it's done, I won't post any recent stuff. Don't worry, it's not much. Mainly some really nice sky shots with the wide angle lens. You know, it makes me realize that the digitals still have quite a way to go to catch up to a good 35mm.

I am next going to post the July 4th stuff from Cincinnati. I saw a ton of folks I haven't seen in years, so be warned: if I saw you, you WILL be posted here ;-)

The next big piece will be my recent trip to Colorado Springs for Clarify/Nortel's SE Update 2000. I got a ton of photos of folks from there, plus a lot of wonderful stuff from Garden of the Gods and the Pike's Peak area. I'm still trying to figure out how to post all those images in a sensible way. I will likely post very small thumbnails and link them to my FTP server. I will only leave the total package up for a month or so, then I will revert to a streamlined version, per usual. The hope is that everyone who wants an image of themselves or someone they know can grab them, then I can take the full-size images down and just post highlights. Well, that's the idea at this moment. I might change my mind. Any better ideas?

7/8/00 June took me to LA for a week of training and on the San Jose for another week. I did some hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains and got some pretty good shots, I think. There's also a Day II on Mt. Allen section, with just a few images.

I have also posted images from hiking Mission Peak in Silicon Valley. I'll soon be posting 4th of July stuff from Cincinnati, so stay tuned!

I am going to Colorado Springs soon with the Clarify SE group, so Andy Hillaker and I will likely get in some cool hiking while out there. Any suggestions?

6/26/00 OK, let me apologize in advance. There's a ton of stuff here. I have been delayed due to technical difficulties with my ISP. We seem to finally have it all worked out. Thanks go to Marc Frega at Dialsoft/Jungle Networks. So, here goes.

First, I was in San Jose at Clarify's headquarters for training starting on 5/6/00. I now have a section called Two Weeks in Silicon Valley that includes a few shots from the training itself and a lot of shots from the sight-seeing Maria and I did during her weekend visit. The highlights were Muir Beach and other points in Marin County, Big Basin State Park, Monterey and Carmel, and last but certainly not least, the Hagiwara Tea Garden in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. This is a must-see section.

I also have a Life at Clarify section that will grow and change, I am sure.

I now have a section on Jim and Gail Schell's house in Honesdale, PA. It's a look at their home and the progress they've made restoring it. It is in it's infancy (my coverage, not the project itself), so don't look for much at the moment. I have a lot of photos to go through and pick for the page.

4/23/00 Well, here's a little page on a freak snow storm on April 9th. It was really something. I also have changed jobs. I now work for "Clarify eBusiness Applications, A Nortel Networks Company". Whew, that's a mouthful! I'll have some info on that job posted soon on my professional pages.

2/26/00  Our Vacation on St. John, US Virgin Islands. Maria picked it and it was lovely. We finally learned to dive and what a great place to start! We did eight dives on four different days, as well as numerous snorkeling trips by car, dinghy and catamaran. We also met some wonderful folks and had some great food. We even met and chatted with Don Schula!

12/24/99 A Holiday greeting and a note about Family.

12/7/99 Maria and I decided to head south to Florida for a few days. We went to Miami Beach then Key Largo.

11/9/99 Will-Do now has a search form, thanks to Marc Frega and the folks at Jungle.net, our hosting service. Will-Do is now residing on an NT server running IIS 4.0 with FrontPage and Active Server extensions! What that means in English is that there are things we can now do that we couldn't before.

10/22/99 (through 10/31) - Every Halloween brings Terrorbite out of its hiding place and transforms the Viau garage in Salem, New Hampshire into the most frightening place on Earth. Well, the garage is always somewhat scary, but this is on purpose ;-)
10/18/99 - Catching up on an earlier event, Jim and Mohamed get some exposure. Also, from just this past weekend, Dad, Maria and I journeyed to Highpoint State Park in northernmost New Jersey to see the fall colors. While the haze kept us from the best views, I think you'll agree that it was still impressive. Also, the Lady Bugs were hatching out by the thousands!
10/13/99 - Dad's Return! Maria's father is now back home with us after his sister passed away. She had a lengthy illness and he was gone for over a year-and-a-half. We're delighted to have him back home. Here's how it looked. Also, I've started creating sections for each of the seasons on the Personal main page. This way, you can get a preview of the various components of that time of year. You can of course still go straight to the sections within each season. The choice is yours! Fall '99 is the first I've done. It's not complete but will be in a day or two.
10/10/99 - Some big changes have begun! I now have a digital camera and will be adding things much more quickly. There's a new Life at IBS section that should turn into a rather lengthy portion of my site. Also, I am seriously starting to catch up on the scanning of photos from the last two years, so the Personal sections based on '98-'99 will get back filled, so check back often. I will try and document the changes here, but I surely will not catch them all. As always, please feel free to comment or make suggestions about this site. Also, I have updated the Current Systems page with most of the latest info on my home IS infrastructure.
6/20/99 - Well, I haven't been as good as I should have lately re: this site. I have a new look for the main page that will probably be in place when you read this. It is experimental, so bear with me. Also, feel free to make suggestions.

In any case, I have pictures due back soon from the recent vacation in Washington, DC and Ocracoke Island in North Carolina's Outer Banks. Very cool. Stay tuned!

1/20/99 - Check out this article on my work that appeared in today's Bergen Record.
